I am currently taking this class to further my education in the graphic design field. I hope that I will be gain a better understanding of how advertisement works both through the public view and the from the designers perspective. I also look forward to adding several more pieces to help build my portfolio.
The first reason for choosing this piece as the good ad would be of the strong use of complementary colors. The odd blue fish breaks away from the swarm of the orange ones and instantly grabs my attention. Then the message of the ad gets straight to the point with a few points of information as to who they are. This also lead my eyes from the school of fish to the blue fish, to the message and finally to the company logo in the bottom right through a nice and smooth motion.
I chose this second piece as my bad ad. I chose it mainly due to the over use of the company symbol within the text that keeps me from reading into their message. It's almost like a obstacle course for my eyes, I mean I'm not stating that I'm lazy or anything but, "We've, symbol, kept, symbol, our, symbol, A+", and so forth. Also the use of the yellow on white with the black text keeps fighting to get my attention from each other.
